About
CIRCERB
The Industrial Research Chair on Eco-responsible Wood Construction (CIRCERB) is a multidisciplinary and integrated academic platform, partnered to an industry consortium, whose efforts cover the entire construction value creation network, in order to develop eco-responsible solutions, using wood-based materials to reduce the ecological footprint of buildings.
Research under 3 axes and 7 themes
Design
DESIGN
Establishing eco-responsible strategies for the entire design process, from induction to building fabrication, through the development of innovative architectural concepts and a more integrated design including the importance of understanding and modeling the risks of new products (or new constructions) for insurability purposes.
ENVIRONMENT
Using the most advanced methods such as life cycle analysis as a validation tool for complex systems in eco-design and eco-responsible building construction.
Build
MATERIALS
Developing and characterizing advanced wood-based materials and bio-sourced materials while documenting their commissioning in building construction.
BUILDING SYSTEMS
Documenting the use of building systems (building structure and envelope) to promote their use in zero-carbon building construction.
CONSTRUCTION
Documenting and optimizing the value-chain creation, from the design to the life-ending of wooden buildings.
Operate
DURABILITY
Developing the concepts allowing a durability of the works and minimizing the maintenance of these by a constructive prevention.
EFFICIENCY
Developing energy efficient practices for wood-based buildings and documenting the performance of heating-ventilation-air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and occupant
behaviour.
